Ride in, ride out, and room for the trailers.

Heritage Lodge is a winter base for a riding group of up to 10. Park the trucks and trailers on site, ride out from the lodge to the region’s trail network, and come back to a sauna, a big kitchen and a washer and dryer.

Where the trails go, and when they run.

Michigan’s state snowmobile trails open December 1 to March 31, and are groomed when there is enough snow. The weather office inland records about 197 inches a season, and the shore sees less.

  • From the lodge

You can ride directly to and from the lodge, onto trails that run toward Munising. The trails open when the snow allows.

  • Along the shore

UP Trail 417 runs along the Lake Superior shoreline toward Alger County, and UP Trail 8 from Marquette toward Gwinn.

  • The walking trails

The Iron Ore Heritage Trail and the North Country Trail are for walking, biking and skiing from the door: see the trails.

Before you ride.

Trail permit
$65 for the season, valid October 1 to September 30, bought from the DNR.

Trail rules and conditions
Permits, registration, trail rules and the day’s trail conditions are on the Michigan DNR’s snowmobiling page.
Trucks and trailers

Winter driving
Allow extra time on the road up. The lodge is on M-28, about 14 minutes from Marquette.

What it’s like to come back.

The wet gear goes through the washer and dryer. The sauna is there to warm you through, and the kitchen is set up to feed 10. Then there is the great room, with sofas for everyone and room to spread the trail map on the floor.

Someone in the group who doesn’t ride?

They can ski or snowshoe from the lodge, and there are groomed trails a short drive away.

Your winter dates.

Choose your dates and the calendar gives the price of your whole stay. The lodge takes 2 nights at least, so a riding weekend fits, and up to 2 dogs come too.

Tell us your dates and we will come back with availability and a price for the whole house.
