The big lake, across the road.
Lake Superior’s beach is across M-28, and the sand runs on and on: long walks, boulders to sit on, and a very large sky, directly across the street from Heritage Lodge.
Walk until you turn around.
A long, wide ribbon of sand with boulders along the top of it: room for a walk of any length and a rock to sit on when you want one. Paddle to the knees, and watch the weather come across the water.

The water is about 65°F at its warmest, in August, so a swim is brisk and brief.
Then back across the road to the sauna, and the fire pit by the pond. See the lodge.
July and August, by the lake.
The longest days of the year, a beach a short walk away and 2 weekends that fill Marquette with people.

July
The Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival fills Tourist Park in Marquette on the next-to-last full weekend of the month.
August
The Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic, a 48-mile ride, runs on August 14, 2027.
Au Train
More of the same lake shore, about 20 minutes’ drive away.
For Presque Isle Park and the cliffs of Pictured Rocks, see Marquette and the days out. The Iron Ore Heritage Trail and the North Country Trail cross our land: walk them from the door.

When the sky goes dark.
On a clear, dark night the northern lights can show over the lake. September and March give the best chances, and the waysides on the shore road in Chocolay Township are places people go to watch.

On the coldest mornings of winter, usually December and January, there can be sea smoke: when very cold air crosses the open, warmer lake, the water seems to steam. If you are up before sunrise, look for it.
Your summer dates.
Choose your dates and the calendar gives the price of your whole stay. The lodge takes 2 nights at least, and up to 2 dogs come too.
